I have chosen to major in elementary education. As a future elementary educator, I have always been drawn to the idea of shaping young minds and making a positive impact on society. The field of elementary education plays a crucial role in nurturing the next generation and shaping the future of our society. Through my college major in elementary education, I aim to contribute to the betterment of society by equipping young learners with the necessary knowledge, skills, and values to become responsible, empathetic, and knowledgeable citizens. In this essay, I will explore the various ways in which my college major in elementary education benefits society as a whole.

The role of an elementary school teacher plays an important role in how students learn in the future and how they view school and learning. If I can show my future students that learning isn’t boring and I show them that I care then the chances of those students having a positive outlook on school and learning is higher than if I showed them I don’t want to be there. I chose to major in elementary education because I want to help the children who don’t have as many opportunities as other students may. If I can show them that if you try hard in everything you do and put in one hundred percent then they can accomplish much more. By showing these positive skills and strategies the students may hold these skills with them throughout their life and possibly show others these skills.

In addition, as a future elementary teacher promoting social and emotional skills is also a major role in the career. Teaching them how to socialize with others and talk to others can help build their confidence and help them further succeed later in life. Guiding them to show empathy to others is also important as it helps them to make friends and be more open to having conversations with others. Working with them on teamwork is also very crucial at their age. Teaching the students this skill will help them tremendously in their lives as they will see different perspectives and how to take feedback positively. Another very important skill I can teach these students is conflict resolution. By showing them how to resolve conflicts they will use this skill almost every day. This skill helps build commitment, compromise, and so much more. By showing them these skills the students will know how to function effectively in society and how to handle stressful situations smoothly.

In conclusion, the skills I have listed above are things I hope to teach young students to learn as they are tremendously helpful throughout their lives. I aim to help guide the students to the betterment of society by equipping them with the necessary knowledge, skills, and values to be the best people they can be.
