The Next Ten Years by makayla - September 2025 Scholarship Essay

In the next ten years, the change I hope to see in my education is the opportunity to earn a degree in Radiology. From a young age, I have always loved children and dreamed of having a family of my own someday. Being the youngest in my family, and without many close relatives nearby, I often felt lonely as a child with no one to play with. But once I learned how to babysit, everything changed. I even had the experience of caring for ten children all at once, and I found joy in watching over them.

My love for children has only grown since then. There is nothing I would love more than to use my skills to capture those priceless moments when parents see their babies for the first time through an ultrasound. I want to be a part of those deeply cherished experiences—like the joy and relief parents feel when they discover they are finally expecting after years of hoping.

Over the next decade, I hope education becomes more accessible and personalized, especially in healthcare fields like radiology. I believe that integrating advanced technology and hands-on learning into education will prepare students better for real-world careers. For example, using virtual simulations and interactive tools can give students the opportunity to practice ultrasound techniques before working with real patients. This kind of training would help students gain confidence and expertise, making the transition into their professions smoother and more effective.

I also hope education will become more affordable and flexible, so students like me—who may face financial or personal challenges—can pursue their dreams without overwhelming stress. Scholarships, online classes, and supportive programs can open doors for many who otherwise might not have the chance to advance their education.

By earning my degree at Austin Peay State University and becoming an ultrasound technician, I want to be part of this future where education empowers people to succeed. I am committed to working hard, learning everything I can, and using my skills to support families during some of the most important moments of their lives. This scholarship would not only ease the financial burden but also encourage me to keep pushing forward, knowing that my goals are within reach.

In ten years, I see education as a tool that not only teaches knowledge but also inspires passion, resilience, and empathy. I hope to embody those values in my career and contribute to a future where everyone has the chance to learn, grow, and make a difference.
