The Importance of Music by Makailyn - October 2016 Scholarship Essay

I give props to those teachers out there that teach band and choir and really anything musically related, even Theater.
Growing up music was solely one of the main things that gave me happiness. Some look at music as an everyday normal thing that comes on the radio or on their iPod or that they can sing in the shower. What they don't realize is how the music really makes them feel, the reason why they're really listening to the music, why they turned on the radio, plugged in their headphones or started to sing in the shower. Music creates feelings and makes you feel some type of way, regardless if its happiness, sadness or even anger. Music can help set your mood or get away from the world around you, at least that’s what it did for me. Music helped me find my passion of dance, helped me block the cold world out, helped my sadness turn to happiness, and I know it does that for millions of people out there.
Just as important as music is, the teacher who takes the time to really teach you about the music you're listening to, or playing on an instrument or coming out of your mouth, is just as important. They teach you how the tone of the music can change the meaning, how one instrument or note can make the world of a difference. How simple words or even complex word can change the meaning, sound and how it affects the person listening.
The teacher, who teaches all of these things, teaches these kids some of the most important lessons that they will learn and carry with them through out their lives. That’s why if the roles were switched, I would want to be that teacher that makes the difference in a student’s life, the teacher that really cares and teaches them life long lessons.
