10 Years Into the Future by Maelin - March 2025 Scholarship Essay
10 years from now, I see myself diving into the field of sports marketing. As a lifelong fan of Oregon State, attending OSU has always been my plan. The university’s dedication to prioritizing students, along with its strong academic programs and ample internship opportunities, makes it the perfect place for me to dive deeper into my passion for marketing. I’m really excited to explore a field that blends creativity with business, where I can sharpen my skills and genuinely make a difference.
I've always enjoyed the crossroads of business and creativity, and through my past four years of high school, I have found my niche in media management and digital art. I have had the awesome opportunity to manage the RHS Leadership and Yearbook Instagram accounts as well! Through designing and posting content that showcases Roseburg’s sports, leadership, and social events, I've been able to experiment with various design ideas and discovered how much I love the creative side of marketing. This hands-on experience has truly solidified my desire to pursue a career in this field.
Next fall at Oregon State, I’m eager to apply for the Beaver Creative Internship to further develop my skills in graphic design, photography, and social media. Through this internship I hope to highlight particularly women’s sports. Over the years, athletes on the women’s basketball and gymnastics teams, like Olympian Jade Carey, have inspired me with their incredible achievements. They not only have made history, but they have proven they can shed a light in a world of male-dominated athletics. My dream is to help amplify their stories and encourage young female athletes through my marketing skills.
Having grown up as a female athlete, I have often felt a disconnect between myself and the professional athletes I admired. I want to help bridge that gap by creating a platform where young athletes can connect with the standout players at Oregon State. I truly believe social media and the right marketing have the power to foster this connection, and I am eager to create campaigns that celebrate the accomplishments of female athletes while motivating the next generation to chase their own dreams.
Besides my passion for sports marketing, I am so excited about becoming part of the broader OSU community, both in and outside the classroom. The opportunities in Oregon State’s marketing program will push me to grow, directly supporting my vision for my future. Through my schooling, I hope to contribute to a positive change in how the world views and supports women’s sports.
