My best accomplishment by Madysen - August 2023 Scholarship Essay
What has been your biggest achievement during your education and how will it support your future goals? When I think about this question the first thing that comes to my mind is all the troubleshoots I came across. But the most important is how I am able to graduate early. The little things I was able to overcome throughout high school have led me here, which is what I am most proud of now.
What was supposed to be a two week safety break turned into me starting my freshman year of high school behind screens, seeing only a teacher's face and black boxes of my classmates. It was terrible and I was miserable, ready for life to get back to normal so I could get the ultimate high school experience that I have witnessed from all the movies. It was a struggle to make sure I was always academically honest. I had internet access for all my assignments, but I was able to stay true to my knowledge. This was my first happy achievement that has had an impact on me.
Sophomore year might have been the hardest part of high school for myself. We were actually allowed to go back to school in person but had to wear masks, which I was okay with. Because I was finally able to make new friends, hang out with them and play sports. Volleyball was my favorite part of school, it gave me such a thrill and I could see everyone everyday. But half way through the season I had a knee injury which ended my eligibility to play for the rest of year. I went into a depression watching my teammate continue to play while I just had to sit on the sidelines. Walking and being on my knee started to get worse and it was then determined that I was going to need surgery. I ended up moving back to online classes right after halloween. During this time I started to fail my classes and I would stop talking to all my friends. After I had my surgery I was terrified of what my life would be so I found validation in my school work and finally was able to get my grades up. This led to me ending the first semester needing only 4 class credits to graduate early. This made me ecstatic so I wanted to try to go back to school in person again. Half way through the second semester I went back, but I had no friends and was always incredibly anxious.
As a junior the only reason I did not want to be done at the end of the year was so I could go to school with my brother his freshman year while I was a senior. But I also realized that high school was not for me, it was never my prime and I knew that. I was ready to leave and start working on my career so I can be independent and start living for myself. I wanted to be able to have fun and not feel stuck here where I grew up. So my school counselor and I would meet up two times a week to come up with a game plan to make me eligible to still graduate at least a semester earlier than I was supposed to.
I applied to my dream school and I got accepted for early admission. My plan now is that when school starts this September I will take one class on my high school campus so I can be there with my brother and then at the community college I will take two classes to get my last credits I need. In the following November I will be able to officially graduate and leave my high school and right after christmas I leave for Arizona for school. I will be majoring in justice studies with a minor in psychology.
So when I think about what I am most proud of myself for I would say this is it. Being able to pick myself up and work hard to get into my dream university. This will help me finally be able to work for my future and build a name for myself.
