Off to College I Go! by Madisyn - November 2023 Scholarship Essay

Hello! My name is Madisyn Tyler and I am your next scholarship winner. I am from a suburban area north of Dallas, Plano. I am currently a Senior at Plano Senior High School. I have always enjoyed school and knew from a young age I would attend college.

There are several reasons I aspire to attend college. College will give me the opportunity to develop and enhance a skillset I need for lifetime success. College enhances responsibility, leadership skills, verbal and written communication skills and time management skills. Although I have been introduced to these skills in high school, college would give me the opportunity to practice these skills more in depth. In college, I would be away from my family and would be required to be more responsible. No more mom waking me up in the morning or reminding me to grab breakfast before dance practice in the morning! Attending college would also allow me to perfect my professional verbal and written communication skills. Communicating with professors and other campus staff, engaging in internships and hopefully engaging in the opportunity to study abroad would help improve my communication skills. The skills developed in college are the foundation of success for job and life challenges.

Once I have developed these skills in college, this would lead to me acquiring a college degree which would yield higher earnings and increased opportunities for career advancement. Employers value employees with higher education and attending college would provide me with more job security and options for employment. College graduates tend to earn more money on average than those individuals with no degree.

Lastly, attending college would allow me the opportunity to be a part of a professional network. Building relationships has always been important to me. Attending college would allow me to build and maintain relationships with individuals with like minds and similar passions. Due to me planning a future in business, networking and relationships will be important to my success. Some jobs are only attainable when you know someone who can get you through the door or someone who can provide you with knowledge of upcoming opportunities.

College is the foundation to a successful future! It is my hope that I will acquire the finances I need to attend college, get both a bachelor's and master's degree and use those degrees to give back to my community. Now, off to college I go!
