The Ears of the Future by Madison - December 2015 Scholarship Essay
Ten years from now, I see a business card on my desk that reads, 'Doctor of Audiology." I see a patient sitting in a sound booth, repeating the words they hear back to me. I see an elderly man smile, as I adjust his hearing aids for his comfort. I see, perhaps, a child hearing for the first time with the help of a cochlear implant.
I want to help patients become more effective with communication in their everyday lives. I want them to experience the wonderful sounds of this world--the voices of their loved ones, their favorite music, and the laughter of their children. However, none of this will be possible without an education. None of this will be possible without professors and mentors personally investing in my life to help me reach my goals. Words cannot express how excited I am to enter the world of Audiology--to explore and discover everything it offers. My education will be the very bridge that links me from just another teen to a young adult making a true difference in the lives of others. My education is not just for me. My education is for the hundreds of patients I will see in the future. My education is for giving them a better life.
