A Passionate Servant Soul by Madison - April 2024 Scholarship Essay
My motivation for nursing has increased as I realize how passionate I am about helping others and how much of a nurturer I am. I love caring for other people and meeting their needs. I am someone who enjoys helping others with whatever they need and hates when I am not able to help. I choose nursing as a way to do this because I am very passionate about babies, and those are the most dependent humans on earth; plus, I eventually want to be a Midwife, which would be a great way to build early on that goal. I desire to work in an area with pregnant women and babies in a specialty such as Labor and Delivery or the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Once I realized that I could care for people while being with babies and building an early foundation for my future in midwifery, I was sold on becoming a nurse!
I know it will sound really cliche but I can stay so focused because of the pure passion that I have for this career. My passion for helping others runs deeper than just trying to be a “good person” but rather stems from the troubled childhood I had before I was adopted. I had some wonderful people pull me out of that deep dark place and I want to give back to the community that gave to me because without them I would not be where I am today, so I want to be on the other end of the exchange this time. Even though helping in labor and delivery is a different battle than the one I went through I want to help babies more precisely because they are the voiceless who need an advocate. As a Christian, I have a voice to advocate for myself and, more importantly, for the voiceless. I hate to see babies being killed before they even enter the world. I am a huge pro-life advocate, and I believe that the most significant way that I can fight abortion is by doing the opposite: helping bring life into the world. My biggest life goal is to stop abortion, and that comes with my passion for caring for others and being a nurturer, which is required as a nurse. So, my personal experiences have led me to want to help others overall as a whole, but more specifically, knowing that 73 million babies are losing their lives every year breaks my heart. I have a soft spot when it comes to the well-being of others. When I become a nurse, my heart will be whole every morning, knowing that I get to work and make a difference in someone's life because I was able to serve and nurture them, whether it be the sick grandpa, the parentless child like I once was or the baby fighting for his/her life.
