Imagine by Madison - February 2020 Scholarship Essay

If I were to start my own nonprofit organization, I would name it Imagine. I would have a building that would house more than one hundred people because I would want to help the homeless in Downtown Salem get off the streets.

The homeless would be provided food, shelter, and other resources. I would also want kids and parents to feel safe again.I would hope this would help benefit the homeless, businesses, and the community, knowing that the city of Salem would be giving them over half of what they need. They definitely would be able to take advantage of what would be given to them; including food. Knowing that, I would plan on feeding them the main courses; breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Snacks would be available, but I would probably have it in a vending machine. The organization would also be providing showers and personal hygiene products; deodorant, shampoo, and menstrual cycle necessities. If able to, I would also want our organization to have some type of psychologist on scene for those who have mental health disorders and addictions.

I hope this would help the homeless adapt and contribute back into society. I also hope this would benefit the stores downtown, getting their regular customers back and having children and parents feel safe again.
