High school is a food chain environment, every person in their own rights a fish crowded like sardines into this pond known as high school. The seniors the biggest fish in the pond, simply their title giving the credibility and power while in contrast the freshmen will remain on the bottom of the food chain, no matter what they do. Power struggles are unavoidable while students trip one another in the halls and shout over the bustle of the between class shuffle; there is only so much the student body can do. The student body that wasn't voted in, just simply there one day asking for quiet and attention. Fish don't take commands like dogs, they don't sit or stay, high school students or fish more similar to fish then they are to apes. The only way to attract their attention is with something they want; for example let's say you own a fish tank and every night before you feed them you turn on the light, conditioning them to connect the light with food. If you turn on the light and don't feed them, you break the habit. High school kids are the same way, they sit in class and be quiet and sit and stay and they expect acknowledgement; as soon as the acknowledgement ends and the rewards disappear then the habit is discouraged and lost. The student body didn't realize this when they tried to explain the Hawaiian theme for the next football game, they were confused as to why no one listened or paused to acknowledge them. Although the solution is simple introduce a reward, give them a goal, something to aspire to; separate the students according to class and nurture the power struggle with silly games. winner gets lunch or spirit gear or a gift card, that was all the student body needed to understand to get the school's attention during assemblies and football games and drawn out presentations. All I had to do was explain this to the student body, reach out to all the familiar faces in the group and tell them what needs fixing. Point out the flaws in their performance in the kindest manners and tell them how to fix it, how to improve. Providing feedback even on the simplest things, providing them with an audience point of view, and allowing them to adapt to their situation to best govern the student population.
