GAP - Guaranteeing A Profression by Madison - August 2019 Scholarship Essay

To some, taking a gap year may seem like a negative thing. A thought like "I don't know if I'll want to resume school after a gap year" may take shape in your mind. However, if a detailed plan is created for exactly what you wish to do during the gap year and exactly why you wish to take the gap year in the first place, there will be a guaranteed positive outcome.

If I were to take a gap year, I would do it for the purpose of focusing on three factors: money, self-improvement, and planning. As college tuition becomes an overwhelming burden, taking a gap year will allow me to gather a decent amount of income in order to make paying for my education a little bit more bearable. Since I would not be enrolled in any classes this time, I would be able to partake in more than one job if I do wish to do so. By doing this, I will be able to quickly compound the amount of money I would have originally made with only one job.

Self-improvement is an extremely important area in which I would be able to fully emerge in. There are a few different ways I could go about for self-improvement such as volunteering, discovering hobbies that pique my interest, or something as simple as ensuring that I am exercising on a regular basis. Any form of character-building and character-strengthening would be an ideal use of time during this gap year.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, I would spend my gap year doing plenty of planning. Planning my future is going to help me ensure myself that I know what is to come and what exactly I will need to do to pursue my goals. Earning more money and self-improvement fit exceptionally well into planning because it goes hand and hand in sculpting a desired, realistic future in which I wish to create for myself.
