Sunrise by Madison - January 2019 Scholarship Essay
Are you a morning person or a night owl? Why are you most productive at this time?
For me, the best time for me to get up and get things done is in the morning. There are many reasons why I am like this and the first reason is that I have early morning dance at 6 a.m. every other day. This has almost forced me to become a morning person because I have to get up at 4:45 and go exercise and be active. Over the years, my body has gotten used to waking up at this time and it has become easier. I find that once I wake up and get out of bed, after about 10 minutes, I am pretty awake and ready for the day. A lot of people have a really hard time with getting out of bed but I find once you get past that step, being up early really isn't that terrible.
Some say that they feel very energetic at night and would rather stay up and get things done instead of going to bed at a reasonable time and waking up early. I disagree. When I try to stay up late and do things such as homework, I have a much harder time focusing and my mind often goes blank. All I can think about is going to sleep soon. In contrast, when I wake up in the morning, I know that I am done with sleep until the end of the day and I am not looking forward to going to bed "after I finish" whatever I am working on.
In addition, when I wake up early in the morning, I feel like I want to be more productive and use the time, that I am not getting sleep, wisely. When I sleep in, I feel guilty for wasting so much time sleeping when I could have been doing something productive. To conclude, it is good to sleep in once in a while to give your body a break, but waking up early in the morning helps me be most productive in getting things done in my day.
