Education means improvement by Madison - April 2018 Scholarship Essay
#improve
One of my favorite quotes by James Beattie is, “The aim of education should be to teach us rather how to think, than what to think. Rather to improve our minds, so as to enable us to think for ourselves, than to load the memory with thoughts of other men.” This quote is so inspiring because the motive to educate students minds to think for themselves and improve on their own is what is necessary for the real world. To me, education means to constantly improve yourself. Whether you improve academically, mentally, or physically is all the difference in what makes you who you are today. Everyone improves in different strengths and at different times. For example, an 8th grader might improve drastically in mathematics while the person next to him has improved drastically in art.
Every child has their strengths and weaknesses. We don't understand and comprehend our abilities until we educate ourselves in school. We are constantly improving to make ourselves better in the classroom and in sports. Without improvement, there is no growth. Students around the world improve everyday if they apply themselves. School is all about improving in what you know best to one day further your education into a career. Once you have gotten to your highest potential, you then realize that all the work you have done since you were 5 years old has benefitted you in one way or another.
