#teach4them by Madison - April 2018 Scholarship Essay
High school is tough. This is a well known fact. It's a time when you have to start growing up, finding who you are, and preparing for independence.
However, it's also a time when you start to grow out of friendships, experience heartbreaks, and have mental break downs yet you're still expected to stay on course and make the grades because college is right around the corner. We're still kids and sometimes we need to be reminded that it's okay. It's okay to get a bad grade on your math homework. It's okay that your heart is broken because you thought you were dating your soul mate. It's okay that your middle school best friend isn't the kind of person you want to hang around anymore. We need this reassurance. Unfortunately, some kids go home to parents who aren't the kind to give words of encouragement and some kids go home to parents who aren't there. Fortunately, teachers choose to teach because they are the kind of people to motivate and care for these kids.
I want to teach because I want to be that teacher that kids feel comfortable coming to not only for history homework help, but for help with life. I want to be the teacher that kids come to when they need to hear 'it's okay, let me help you find a way". $3,000 will help me graduate with less debt because teaching isn't about the income but the outcome.
