Knowledge is power. As a young woman, when I see the importance that education has played in my life and the advantages that I have had living in a community like Alexandria, Minnesota, I realize the importance that education has for everyone. Education is an important and vital thing for the success of all individuals, but as a young woman myself, I see the importance especially for young women. I believe that without education, there would be no way to succeed in the world or in society as a whole. As a teenage girl, there have been many times where I have questioned who I am and who I want to be. There have been many times where I have questioned what’s my purpose and where will I fit in in life? But, I always come back to my education and the phenomenal experiences that I have had. I don’t always think that education has to be something that you learn out of books. I have had teachers, coaches, friends, and mentors that have all taught me about the kind of person that I want to be. Whether it’s the smile, giggle, or hug from a three-year-old in my Sunday School class while we work on a craft project, a pat on the back from my fellow choir members telling me they are proud of me, a church member calling and asking me to babysit, a teacher asking me to help a fellow student, or a “thank you” from a senior citizen while I cut up his dinner, I know that I have learned a lot about the importance of helping others.
In the past four years, I have had the opportunity to participate in a leadership development program. This education has not only taught me to be a good leader, but has also taught me to be a good follower. I have found that my strengths in communication, positivity, and collaboration have taught me to understand that we all have a role in the final product. Whether I am in a leadership position on the church council or serving as a role model on our tennis team, I have made many friendships and believe that this is the education I have needed to connect with others and to grow and develop skills to cultivate relationships and friendships with others. Education has guided me through the process of picking a major when entering college.
After high school, I plan on going to school for Radiologic Technology. I chose this career because I want to take my education to a higher level and to continue to work with people and to help others. I have a passion for including others in my activities as well as in school and in the workplace. I believe that this has made me a good leader and has helped me to teach other young women how to grow their own strengths to become great leaders as well. This is the importance of education.
