The Impact of Studying Abroad by Madison - November 2017 Scholarship Essay
Traveling abroad is something I wish every person has the chance to experience. I have always longed to study abroad, and hopefully I will get my chance at college. I believe studying abroad will not only allow me to see the world, but experience how professors teach in other countries. International education would allow me to see another side of my major, biochemistry, that is not shown here in the United States. Seeing a different side of my major could impact my medical practice down the road. As well as diving further into my major, studying abroad can offer me a new understanding of that nation’s people and their history. Culture is vital in everyone’s life, and experiencing an unfamiliar promotes personal growth.
Studying abroad can open up new opportunities, it provides excellent education, while giving the chance to make new friends, discover new interests, and promote personal development. I believe that studying abroad could not only enhance my college education, but enhance my life and the opportunities available to me. It could bring me an edge when applying to medical school, provide a chance to establish who I am, and enhance my cultural understanding. Studying abroad presents new challenges and puts students in difficult situations, but that is something that future employers look for as well as graduate schools. And finally, I believe the chance to study abroad would offer me a new sense of independence that I could not gain from studying only in the United States.
