One of The Best by Madison - December 2016 Scholarship Essay

Senior year of high school has taught me so much in just a short four month time frame. It has taught me that you will meet some of the best people in the little time you have left at school, teachers expect more from you and that you’re quickly realizing how fast graduation sneaks up on you. While all that is on every seniors mind, my mind focuses on my sport. I’m on the POMS team at my school (aka dance team) and just recently competed at my final state spirit competition.
This is the largest and most important competition of the season as it shows to the judges if you're worthy of a state title or not. Being on a team that is nationally ranked and is in the top ten pom teams in the state, I’m just very grateful to be on this team. In order to keep up such a reputation for our school and the POMS team, I will be the first to say that the girls on the team work their behinds off. From early morning cardio sessions to four hour saturday practices, we know that we are committed to make sure that we look amazing and the state knows it.
This year had started off a little rough for our team though. We didn’t get our choreography for state until two months in advance- which is quite late to start a state routine- and as well had a girl on our team quit in the middle of a practice. It was in the next practice when the team regrouped and came together to say that nothing can stop us or get in our way. We spent three hours everyday after school perfecting our dance to the littlest details that only we could probably notice but at state and performing such an amazing routine, it paid off. We were named the fifth best POM team in the state of Colorado and will continue to create a legacy for such an amazing program. Even with as many challenges we faced along the way to the state competition, we truly did rise up and show how strong of a team we are.
