Teaching to Change by Madison - October 2016 Scholarship Essay

Imagine a world of healthy citizens, working hard to improve the community and make the most of their lives. Imagine a world where there was no drugs, no alcohol, and no cigarettes. The best way to create this kind of a world is to teach the youth to be healthy. If the roles were reversed, I would be a health teacher because I could change the world.
By teaching health, the youth of today would learn to be physically fit. In the United States of America, 68.8% of all adults are obese. This number has been steadily increasing over the years and will continue to get bigger. In health class, students learn to eat healthy and exercise. By teaching health, I will help students understand and develop a desire for healthy living and reduce the obesity rate in the United States of America.
In health class students also learn the danger of using drugs, alcohol, and cigarette's. Imagine someone you love dying because of drug use. Every 19 minutes a family experiences this tragedy. All health teachers work very hard to help their students understand the dangers of drugs, alcohol and cigarettes. By becoming a health teacher I will keep the community safe by ensuring their are no drunk drivers and protecting our youth from the tragedies of drugs.
Lastly, I will create a better world through teaching my health students to be emotionally strong. In an ever tumultuous world, our youth need to have a positive outlook on everything. In health they will learn that life is always worth it and that they can do anything they set their minds to. When our youth have good ego's they will strengthen our community and make our world a better world.
In conclusion, if the roles were reversed I would be a health teacher because I could make the most difference to our community. By teaching my students to be healthy and emotionally strong I will make the economy better. I would develop strong workers in a world where hard work is underappreciated. By being a health teacher, I will change the world.
