Math: Not Only Finding the Right Answers by Madison - October 2016 Scholarship Essay

If I could switch roles with my teacher, and pick what subject I would teach, I would choose math. This subject, even though complicated, would be rewarding to teach. I think math would be the best area because not only would it teach students math needed throughout their career, but it would also teach them how to preserve through problems.
Numerous people may think I am crazy in saying that math could help children preserve through problems as well as teach valuable life lessons, but there are viable reasons why I am sane. In order to solve a math problem, multiple steps must be completed. Students cannot just skip certain steps and still be able to solve the problem correctly. This can relate to life because in order to succeed, a goal must be set. After the goal is set, steps must be taken to achieve that specific goal. If a step is forgotten or left out, the course of the goal may be shifted. Successful individuals complete each step necessary to make sure they are on the route to accomplish their goal; successful students will complete each step necessary to solve the math problem that is given.
Math also teaches students to preserve through problems to reach a goal. It teaches students not to give up, but work through multiple steps to find the answer. This can be used throughout life in general. If students learn to work how to work through difficult step to find an answer, then they will learn that it can be transferred alter into life as well. Math teaches individuals not to give up halfway through a problem. It teaches them to work through step in order to reach their goal.
Math would be a wonderful subject to teach because, I would be help shaping the lives of my students. I would not only be teaching them math used in school, but lessons that can be valued all throughout their lives.
