The Cycle of Giving by Madilyn - February 2019 Scholarship Essay

My dream job is to be an Emergency Room Nurse. I have a fascination to go into the healthcare field for numerous reasons. I love learning and studying about health sciences and have tried to take as many science classes as I could throughout my high school studies. Health science fascinated me before I got into high school and I became even more interested in the field as I started taking more science classes. My step-dad was going through nursing school my freshman and sophomore year, so I got to see a little bit of what he was learning and what he was diving into. During this time, I became very interested in the nursing field because I could see all the work and effort he put into his work. I shadowed my grandmother who is a crisis worker in the hospital. It was really fun being able to see how the doctors and nurses and health assistants worked together. I loved the atmosphere and the work they were doing and I have discovered that I am passionate about helping others. Through several activities, some work experience, volunteering, and leadership opportunities, I have found that working with and helping people is how I want to work and direct my life in the future. Participating in the community has helped me narrow down my focus and has shown me what I like most. I have learned from leadership opportunities and many classes, jobs, and extracurricular activities that I want to be someone who gives back to the community. I want to be a leader and caregiver. I am excited to study and work through college to complete my intended degree. I am motivated to achieve my goals for the future. In spite of some personal challenges, I have worked hard to get to where I am today. I have had to crawl through some obstacles, but I have pushed myself and kept myself headstrong. College will give me the greatest opportunity to reach my goal and give back to the community I live in. Continuing to learn and grow through my studies and other volunteer opportunities will allow me achieve my goal of becoming a nurse. As I’ve watched the cycle of giving in my own life make a difference in people’s lives each day, I look forward to continuing that cycle by being the difference in the lives of those I care for.
