The aspect of my education that I am most thankful for by Madelyn - November 2020 Scholarship Essay
I'm am very thankful for all aspects of my education. I believe that each academic achievement I have received has helped me better myself and reach my overall goals. However, the aspect of my education that I am most thankful for is my parents dedication to push me and encourage me to strive for excellence every step of the way.
I can remember even from a young age if my parents noticed me struggling with a homework assignment they would sit me down at the kitchen table and work through each part of the assignment with me. This oftentimes led to my dad insisting that he is correct while I was crying because I couldn't figure out how he found the answer. But all in all he really pushed me to think hard when I was struggling and to not give up right away.
My mom always encouraged me to go to school each day, even on the mornings when I was too tired to get out of bed, along with making sure I had all my homework done each weeknight and weekend. She constantly pestered me to get every assignment done and prepare myself for the next day to come.
As a young elementary school kid I never realized the importance of my parents pushing me, all I knew was the constant pressure of my parents looking over my shoulder made me do what needed to be done in a productive way. As I am in high school now and am more independent I have recently been looking back on those valuable times in my life. I have begun to realize my parents never pressured me only so I could get my work done and have good grades. They pressured me because they knew it would prepare me for my independence and help me with my adult life as I plan ahead for college and a lifetime career.
The aspect of my education that I am most thankful for may look different than others, but man am I thankful for having supportive parents even if I don't see that in the moment.
