College Freezes Time by Madeline - April 2020 Scholarship Essay
College is such a special time in our lives where we can focus on our futures and figure out what we want to do with the rest of our lives. While I understand that college is not for everyone I am very grateful that I have been given the opportunity to further my education. This opportunity allowed me to explore my options for future careers with all of the different classes offered.
I began my freshman year as an undeclared major, thinking I knew what I wanted to do, but was nowhere ready to commit. I spent my whole first year taking general classes and doing research to figure out what I wanted to do and by the end of the year, I had finally set my mind on nutrition after taking a food science class. As a fourth-year now I have explored so many options for careers that I now know what I feel passionate about and feel I’d be skilled at.
For most people college is a time of growth and I would agree. The freedom that college allows you to venture out into different avenues through clubs, class options, etc. will help you figure out your future career options before entering the working world. I think everyone should further their education, especially if they do not have a plan. Education is never negative, everything we learn is just shared experiences that we can use to our advantage in our lives. Even if you do not obtain a degree or completely change your plan, you still learned something new in school, as well as about yourself.
