Introduction to Engineering and Design by Madeline - June 2018 Scholarship Essay
Introduction to Engineering and Design built to show students different aspects of designing, building, and creating. Everything mankind created, started out with just a sketch. This class not only teaches a student how to sketch a drawing, but build it too.
For example, the largest project of the year was the Puzzle Cube Project. We measured with dial calipers, sanded, glued and designed their 3 by 3 puzzle cube. We also used the design process and created portfolios for our projects. It combined everything we learned into one big project. This class is essential.
It gives students a chance to experience real life projects and a peak into what people do at work. Not only did we learn, the design process, we learned how to use a CAD program called Autodesk Inventor. This program allows the user to create 3-D objects. When we finished making out physical cube out of wood, we created it in Inventor as well. Everyday objects can be designed in Inventor. For example, a writing utensil or a paperclip. This class shows how anything can be invented with just one idea. An idea means possibility, and the possibilities are endless. We learn how to make those possibilities into realities.
