Impact: past, present, and future by Madeline - January 2018 Scholarship Essay
While the word “impact” is merely just a word, the meaning behind it can have great power. Think about a high school football player for example. He is working hard, practicing every day, and giving every game 110% because he is hoping to get that college scholarship. Now think about how impact affects him. Yes, there is the physical impact that he feels from tackling his opponent to the ground but then there is also the impact of whether or not he makes a good pass or catches the ball without fumbling while a college scout is watching, or the lasting impact of a serious injury he could encounter while playing. Impact can be physical, it can cause an emotional response and can alter the futures of ones life. Every decision we make, every interaction we make every thing we do can create a lasting impact on our lives and the lives around us.
When I think of going to college I think of the impact it will have on me, whether it be the classes I take, the people I meet, the professors I learn from, or the activities I decide to partake in. College is a time to find out who you are, what you stand for and what you want to do with the rest of your life. It helps you figure out how you plan to impact the world around you. I have already had the experience of earning my bachelors degree and the impact those 4 years had on my life has lead me to want to further my education even more and attend a graduate school to earn my masters in social work.
I want to advance my education and earn my masters in social work not only to have better understanding of the knowledge and information that makes up this field of work, but also because I want to be able to impact the lives of others. I wish to learn what it takes to become a licensed clinical social worker and I want to work a hospital where people’s lives are impacted every day. Not only do I wish to learn more but also I want to attend a masters program so I can be competent and confident in the work I am doing so I can make a difference in someone’s life.
To sum it all up, I think impact is a great way to describe my reasoning for wanting to go back to school. I want the impact graduate school is going to have on me to help me be able to impact the lives of other for the better.
