The power of your very own mind! by Maddy - April 2016 Scholarship Essay
As a student who has maintained First Honors, and served as the captain of the cheer, cross country, and track & field teams, I owe credit to more than just the physical effort that was put in to achieving all of these things. Effort and focusing my mind on doing my best at everything I attempt has brought me so many opportunities in my life and has taught me to not be afraid of things like rejection or embarrassment. While I have learned so much in the areas of history, literature, and mathematics in high school, by far the biggest thing I have learned in my years of schooling was how to open my mind to new things and allow it to push me to do great things. If I could offer one piece of advice to younger students I would tell them to not be afraid of taking chances and trying new things! Let new experiences and the absorption of new knowledge broaden your mind and always put your all in everything! Your mind is your most powerful tool, and with positive thinking and motivation combined with a heartfelt effort and perseverance, one simply can not be stopped from achieving whatever it is that they dream of!
If you set your mind to what you want to see become reality and constantly remind yourself of your goals, no one or nothing can stand in your way! This can be applied to more than just school, as having a positive outlook and open mind can be applied to all aspects of your life whether it is your personal relationships, athletics, or even just your mindset when meeting new people or walking into a new restaurant.
One of my favorite quotes by Earl Nightingale states, "Whatever we plant in our subconscious mind and nourish with repetition and emotion will one day become a reality." This quote perfectly sums up the idea of positive thinking and believing in yourself, and enforces the importance of putting your mind to whatever you want to achieve and not loosing sight of your goals! It is so important for students to prevent anything negative from getting in the way of their goals. You must remember that your hardships are simply bumps in the road to your goals, not roadblocks. Never let financial, physical, or mental hardships stop you from achieving what you want to achieve, but use these things as motivation to become better and push harder for the things you want! If you set your mind in the right direction you will be able to turn any situation, good or bad, into a learning experience. Always find the best in every situation, even if the best is simply the fact that you never want to do something or experience something again! Now you know a little bit more about yourself and you have allowed your mind to wrap around something new; even if that something was unpleasing in one way or another. With the right mindset you can take away knowledge and a new understanding of things that you did not have before!
So as a young person, do not be afraid to try out for that new sports team or eat that strange food! Open your mind to new things and always be on the look out for new experiences and ways to strengthen your mind. Set your mind to what you want and think positive thoughts; do not let anything stop you from achieving your dreams! Strive for optimism and remember that even the worst of situations can lead to good things. With all this in mind, think of how far it can take you! Your mind is limitless, there is nothing you can not achieve!
