Benefits of a College Degree by Maddison - October 2024 Scholarship Essay

Before I ever even thought that a college degree was something I could pursue in, I was worried about never being able to see my sons as much and watch them grow from having to work two jobs. I was wanting to be able to give them the life I wish I had and would be able to still be there for them in the process. I didn’t even have high school finished and I knew that that was something I had to look into first before I thought deeper into not only my future, but my son’s future as well. The day after I got my High School Diploma, I applied for colleges and took a leap of faith to be accepted. Once I knew that I was able to move forward I thought about my not so amazing childhood and how I wanted to keep not only my own children from toxic and domestic environments, but I wanted to make sure every boy or girl could, so I decided to go to school to become a social worker. Helping anyone and everyone has always been an instinct of mind because I’ve always believed that if you want to receive kindness, you have to spread it. Showing my boys that no matter what you can always find a way to have a brighter future is my biggest challenge I have to face especially in the judgmental world that we live in. The benefits that you can receive from furthering your education is what I look forward to the most. It broadens your ability to work in different fields, you can receive better pay to make more money and live more freely. Another benefit to me is to have the ability of working with children and families. Another benefit that I believe is useful for everybody, is being capable of gaining more experience from being part of a career that you’ve always wanted to be apart of. When you receive a college degree the world is in your hands. It can motivate you to continue going to college to become certified in another job area, or it can help you become the best version of yourself if you do what you love. With a college degree the sky is the limit, and that is why I believe that they are beneficial.
