Student Robot by Maddie - February 2018 Scholarship Essay

I believe in the year 2038, an advance in technology that would be an integral part of education is having a student in the form of a robot. This may sound out of this world, impossible, but in the case of a student being home-bound, it sounds perfect.
If a student is not capable of going to school due to a sickness, simply dropping off their make-up work at home will not suffice. While at home, they are not gaining the same benefits of education as the students who are present in class are. If technology advanced for education, I believe a portable robot in the classroom that has a screen for the student to see the classroom and for the classroom to see the student at home would suit well for everyone. The home-bound student would have a remote to control the robot from locations; meaning, when having multiple classes during a school day, a remote for the student would allow them access to transport from each class. While rolling down the hallways, the student would be able to communicate with their peers and not miss out on lunch break laughs.
Advantages of having a student robot allows them to still engage within classroom discussions, ask face-to-face questions to the teacher, complete class work at the same time as their peers, and last but not least, having the feeling of comfort as if they are present within the classroom.
When the year 2038 approaches, I hope to see student robots across the nation helping those at home continue their educational experience.
