My Senior Quote by Madalyn - November 2018 Scholarship Essay
When you think of a senior quote, what comes to mind? Do you envision corny puns? Serious quotes about the meaning of life? Maybe even a sappy song lyric? All of these examples can be found in an average high school yearbook. All throughout high school, I have contemplated what kind of senior quote I would use. Now that I am a senior, it is time to make the decision. It might seem like a superficial decision for some people, but to me, it is important. Years from now, when I look back at my yearbook, how do I want to remember my senior year? A senior quote gives insight into a person. For my quote, I decided to go with something both comical and classy: “The only time I set the bar low is for limbo.” -Michael Scott.
Pretty great, right? The quote comes from my all-time favorite show, The Office. It is an extremely popular show, and I have seen many people use lines from it for their quotes. I came across my chosen quote in a deleted scene, so hopefully no one else will use it too. I chose this quote because not only is it humorous, it tells a lot about my character. All throughout my years of school, I have always worked hard and set the bar high. I managed to make it to my senior year with a 4.32 GPA and a spot in the top 10% of my class. I have chosen to challenge myself in most aspects of my education, taking AP and honors classes, joining The National Honor Society, and making plans to further my schooling at one of Florida’s top universities. I plan on always raising the bar, whether it be about school, my career, or my personal life.
All seriousness aside, the quote also highlights the comical part of me. In school, I tend to come across as quiet and often unamusing. I wanted a funny quote to show people that there is more to me than just my introverted nature. I had always wanted to use a quote from The Office because it is such a hilarious show. In fact, there seems to be an endless amount of lines from the show to choose from for a memorable senior quote.
In a few decades, when my classmates are looking through their yearbooks, how will they remember me? I hope when they see my senior quote, they recognize my true personality: even though I work hard and always try my best to succeed, I still have a fun side to me. Senior quotes are one of the most important aspects of one’s senior year, and I believe I have chosen the perfect quote to represent myself.
