Where I hope to be in 10 years. by Madaline - March 2025 Scholarship Essay

Throughout my life, I’ve had many aspirations, some of which were simply childhood dreams. However, I’m now at a point where I can turn some of these hopes into reality. In the next 10 years, I aim to become a counselor, specializing in drug and alcohol counseling. This career path is personal to me, as I’ve witnessed family members struggle with addiction. Their experiences have motivated me to pursue this field and help others facing similar challenges.

Currently, I am working towards a degree in psychology, which will equip me with the knowledge and skills to better understand human behavior. The courses I’m taking will not only enhance my understanding of why people act the way they do but will also provide a strong foundation for my future work as a counselor. Additionally, I am studying business communications, which will prepare me to manage the business side of running a counseling practice. My ultimate goal is to open my own counseling business so I can help even more people in need.
