Inspiring Today's Youth by Macy - January 2024 Scholarship Essay

I started competing in beauty pageants at the age of eight. This led to me needing a community service project, a "platform." I founded my own organization called "Stack the Packs"
Annually, I hosted a backpack drive to donate book bags and school supplies for students in my community. This was my biggest project for a few years. As it continued on, I fell in love with the feeling of giving back and I wasn't satisfied with what I had done so far.
I volunteered anywhere I could. The mobile food pantry, summer lunch program, the local nursing home, and our local Angel Tree are all examples of organizations in my community that I didn't hesitate to help out. My favorite way to volunteer, by far, is with young girls in my community.
I have been a youth volleyball coach for the past few summers, helping and even running a few of the camps all on my own. This is my favorite because it is the most rewarding for me. The best part is when I can tell the girls are enjoying volleyball and are working hard to get better. They make corrections well, they practice, and they see progress. The way their faces lights up when they finally nail the form is what makes it so special. I believe the biggest contribution anyone can make to a community is to inspire today's youth, because they are tomorrow's leaders.
