Do What Makes You Feel Alive by Macy - November 2018 Scholarship Essay

Have you ever done something that truly made you feel alive? By feeling alive, I don’t just mean breathing. I mean being full of energy, full of life, not caring what other people think and living carefree. “Do what makes you feel alive,” is the quote that describes me, because I try to do things that give my life true meaning. Some of the things that make me feel alive are my adventures and running.
The adventures I take are something that separate me from everyone else. The things that people would never even think about doing are the things I dare to do. One summer night my cousin and I left from Woodstock, Georgia at 11pm and set out for Evansville, Indiana. We didn’t know much about Indiana other than the fact that it was a place we had never been, and we heard their sunsets were pretty. When we arrived, it was 5:45am and the sun wasn’t expected to rise until 6:45am. We decided to sleep in a local parking deck for an hour before walking down the Ohio River Boardwalk to see the best sunrise. Even though we were only there for two hours, it’s still an adventure that I will always remember not just because it was some crazy wild idea but because the way I felt during the trip. I felt alive.
My sport, track, is another thing that gives my life purpose. Now think about this, you’re at the track & field state championship with some of the fastest people in the nation to your right and left. Although someone may be faster in the books, it’s anyone’s race. Once the gun goes off, anything can happen. The thought of being the best, the fastest in the state, the fastest in the nation is a crazy and exciting thought. Last year I came 6th and 7th at the Georgia State Championship and knowing I can go back next year and win it all is something that I strive to achieve. The adrenaline I get from crossing the finish line and knowing there are still things I can do to improve and perfect my race are things that make me feel alive.
In conclusion, I enjoy doing activities that are invigorating and thrilling. I feel doing these things make me stand out from everyone else and help me feel alive.
