Informal Education and its impact on my academic success by Mackenzie - June 2024 Scholarship Essay
Upon high school graduation, I held the esteemed position of class speaker, boasting top honors, ranking within the top 10% of my peers with the highest GPA. As a student athlete, I earned numerous academic accolades and granted admission to one of the premier business schools in the northeast, while also committing to play Division One soccer for the university. While I wish to credit my unwavering attention span and perfect attendance throughout middle and high school for my academic achievements, I attribute a greater influence to my involvement in competitive soccer.
Engaging in activities such as watching YouTube videos, playing games, and participating in weekly trivia contests has provided me with a solid foundation for absorbing new information through collaborative means. However, it is my deep passion for soccer and the lessons absorbed from competing at such an intense level that have significantly shaped my approach to life. From teamwork and effective communication to resilience, grit, and unwavering passion, the invaluable qualities instilled in me through my soccer career continue to permeate every facet of my academic journey and beyond.
While traditional education offers essential knowledge in various subjects, it is the informal education acquired through sports like soccer that I believe holds greater significance. These lessons not only guide my academic pursuits but also promise to propel me toward success in my future career endeavors.
