Connection by Mackenzie - August 2022 Scholarship Essay

A connection can mean many things to someone. A connection can be simple or complicated. A connection to me is one of the most viable things a human can possess. Although forming a link between other students and professors doesn't sound like a generic academic goal like maintaining a GPA of 3.0, developing a connection has become a fundamental part of improving my educational journey.
Throughout my first year at college, I found myself trying to form connections. In turn, I met a group that related to my love of trying different foods. Twice a month, we would try to go out and find a new place to try, from finding multiple ramen places to conveyor belt sushi to Nigerian food. Meeting this group and forming that connection made my first year at college enjoyable. It allowed me to take an essential break from schoolwork and enjoy the college experience. That's why for this upcoming year, I want to continue to connect with people around the campus.
I will not limit the connections I try to make over this school year. I want to try to connect with other students from my class. I want to have more conversations with my professors. I want to create more connections because if there is one thing I have learned from my first year at college, you can not go at it alone. Whether one accepts it or not, creating meaningful connections makes academics enjoyable. Having meaningful connections makes life enjoyable. That's why my academic goal for this year is to create meaningful connections.
