It's all About the Climb by Mackenzie - November 2018 Scholarship Essay

Everything worth doing in life takes a great deal of effort if it doesn't the end result isn't as spectacular. This being said when one walks across the stage to receive their high school diploma, they should feel as if they conquered a great milestone in their life. A milestone that may have been difficult, but very well deserved in the end. This is why my senior yearbook quote is "the best view comes after the hardest climb."

If one has ever climbed a mountain or overcome any challenge in life they know there is a point where you question if it's worth the pain you are going through to finish. This point is where many people choose to give up because it's easier. Nobody ever said achieving success was easy, if they did we may all be successful. However, the difference between people that reach the top and the ones who don't is the decision they make when they reach the point where things get tough. If one truly wants to reach their goals they will push through this point and find it within themselves to continue.

For me, high school is the hardest climb I have yet to do. I have put in all my energy and focus into creating a successful high school career for myself. It has taken more than just the want to achieve success, but the true gritty determination to make it happen. I have spent countless nights studying, doing homework, participating in extracurriculars, and trying to balance a very hectic schedule. I do this all in the hopes I will achieve something greater. I would rather finish high school and be proud of what I have accomplished than to finish and regret not working harder. It may not be easy, but in the end, it's worth it. I started high school with great determination, but the pressure soon got me. I had way too much going on at once and I soon realized that high school was not going to be easy. It didn't take long before I was burned out. I felt like I was working for no end result. It was at these times when I had to remember that my hard work would pay off and that I had to keep going. Even though I fell many times, shed a few tears, and received a few scars I didn't stop dreaming of the view from the top.

My quote "the best view comes after the hardest climb" represents my journey through high school. Not every part of my journey was amazing, but I didn't lose hope that the end could be beautiful. I climbed my way to the finish and it was never easy for me. Although, I regret nothing because I can look back from the top and see all that I accomplished and all that lies ahead.
