A Step Towards My Future by Macie - August 2024 Scholarship Essay

My mind is a smorgasbord of conflict. What is the most important objective in my life that currently trumps the rest? Like everything in the world, there are multiple perspectives to take on a question. For starters, exploring my dream of getting a bachelor's degree is a possibility of my goal. I've always viewed high school as a stepping stone filled with preparation for college. However, I shouldn't get carried away. My senior year is emerging on the horizon. I shouldn't wish away time that hasn't happened; an entire academic year has loads of potential.

If I were to narrow my outlook on my future endeavors, I undoubtedly would still mention how I long to walk across the stage at my high school graduation. Growing up, I have watched over a dozen television shows' actors simulate the "high school experience." Despite the wild differences between fantasy and reality, I want to have a physical moment to mark my educational pursuits up until now. However, that moment is reflected by its name: only a moment. That is why I am determining that my goal will be to dive deeper into my elective classes this upcoming year. These career-focused classes will assist in determining my prospective major. Why would I seek a title in an educational field if my passion behind it is lackluster? I will discover what kind of person I want to be and how to pursue that mindset.

When I learn about something, I like to understand how multiple angles clash to eventually merge into one thing. This is why all my electives revolve around the focal point of business. My senior year course schedule consists of classes such as advanced placement economics, accounting, and marketing fundamentals. I want to know if these classes will spark an urge to seek further knowledge. Can I see myself consumed with these topics for the rest of my life until I retire? I don't want a job for its status, fame, or salary. Financial stability is a phenomenal aspect of a job, but desire is another component in the equation of a worthwhile livelihood.

Selecting business as my major won't be a shot in the dark. I genuinely have an interest in looking into the gritty details of a company to evaluate different moves to make while ultimately deciding on the best course of action for a particular circumstance. I like being in the inner workings of something. Seeing the flaws and figuring out how to improve them. When I commit to something, I do it wholeheartedly with every fiber of my being. I know obtaining knowledge can be tedious when you first learn the jargon and principles. Yet, this year will be when I submerge myself into something new in order to grasp the wisdom from it. My mind is a smorgasbord of conflict. What is the most important objective in my life that currently trumps the rest?
