How My Moms Career has Changed My Life by Maci - February 2024 Scholarship Essay
Throughout my life, my biggest role model has always been my mother. As a single mom two, she has had a lot of curveballs thrown her way. Even with all the challenges of being a single parent, she pursued her passion of nursing through it all. My mom worked in the Intensive Care Unit at Baylor Scott and White for seventeen years. She worked long hours every day and most of the time she would come home utterly exhausted. Even through her exhaustion, she continued every day to show me and my sister how much she loves us and how much she cared for us.
After seventeen years of doing what she loved the most, my mom found a new passion that has changed her life forever. It all started when she went on a helicopter tour and realized her love for the adrenaline was beyond what she could have imagined. That's when she decided she wanted to be a helicopter nurse. This new job brought so many exciting stories that my mom would share with my sister and I every day when she got off of her twenty-four hour shifts. She would talk about how beautiful the city looked from hundreds of feet above, and how it was even more beautiful because she was seeing the city at the same time as saving a life.
Throughout her years as an ICU and helicopter nurse, she has saved countless lives. Not only is she saving people, but she is having fun and getting to experience things that most people never even dream of. This is why I am choosing to pursue nursing just like my mom. I hope one day I can accomplish even half of what she has and I truly can not thank her enough for giving me the world. I am beyond excited to attend college and learn everything about what my mom is doing in the sky.
