Your psyche is more important than your education by lyxia - November 2021 Scholarship Essay
Throughout your day you encounter many people, and each person reacts to events differently. There are people who argue, who cause fights, who are polite, and many more. You then ask yourself why do they act the way they do? There are also questions of why does a person think the way they do? Then my mind went back to the word, psychology. There were a few times it was ever brought up during school, cyberbullying, depression, and anxiety; however, the subject of psychology itself is never explored and how it can affect ourselves.
Psychology is the study of the human mind and their behavior. Learning more about psychology is beneficial because not only will the individual learn how the brain's function, but to understand why someone thinks the way they do and how to help a person. It will give people a better understanding of why people react the way they do.
There was a time in elementary school where making friends was easier, more playful, and talking to other people was simple. When I started my middle school year it was the exact opposite. Yes I made friends, but I didn’t talk that much nor was I social with other people. Looking back to this change I question myself, how did I change? This got me thinking about the possible ways I changed, and one of those thoughts was being in a completely different environment. Even so, back then I didn’t notice the change and I thought that people just didn’t like me. It was difficult to contribute in conversations with my friends and hanging out with them was getting harder. It wasn’t with just my friends but people in general, including my family.
Once the school talked about depression, anxiety, and a bit of psychology it was an eye opener. It helped me find ways to calm not only myself but my siblings during stressful situations. I didn’t notice before but when my siblings or ourselves are under pressure our sleep schedule and education are greatly impacted. Sometimes we would arrive back home tired and feel not motivated to do our assignments. We didn’t feel all that great when a turn of event happened because we were confused and stressed of what was going to happen.
Learning a bit about psychology helped us understand ourselves and why we acted the way we do. It also helps us find ways to help ourselves and people around us because our health is more important than our education. How we feel mentaly will greatly impact not just our academics but our daily life. That is why I believe psychology should be taught more in school.
