A Passion is Taking the Extra Step to Improve Yourself by Luke - July 2019 Scholarship Essay

Education is a privilege we have. Never before in the history of the world have people had some much potential to educate themselves. Yet many people do not fully grasp this nor do they exercise it. For me, having a passion for education is taking the extra step, going the extra mile, and "doing one more".

Millions of people are enrolled in college and many millions more are enrolled in High School. Going to college no longer demonstrates having a passion for education. For me having a passion for education is reading books on my own. I try to take the next step. In school teachers will give me material to read and study, but that does not count as having a passion for education. I read books about investing, being a salesman, and the lives of great men. Men, who started from nothing and taught themselves as they went along their path. Their pursuit of knowledge inspires me to pursue it myself too. For me having a passion for education is putting down my phone and turning off the TV to pick books like the "The Autobiography of Andrew Carnegie", "Learn to Earn", "Sam Walton Made in America: My Story", "The Richest Man in Babylon", "The Ultimate Guide to Sales", "The Art of the Deal" and "How to be Rich".

In January, I made the resolution to read one book a month for the year of 2019. I have stuck with this resolution and will fulfill it. So far I have read the books listed earlier. Next year I will ramp up the number of books and will continue to do so years afterward because I have a passion for education and I wish to improve myself and my life.
