Determination Leads to Remuneration by Luke - December 2017 Scholarship Essay

They asked for the ultimate strategy for success? Well, that's almost a trick question. There is no sure-fire wayto succeed. However, in my experience, there are certain skills that, when applied, can be invaluable when trying to complete a school project.
The first and most important attribute is this: don’t be afraid of hard work. Too many students shy away from the prospect of work, wanting to instead stare at a screen or beg the teacher to improve their grade. These things will not help you succeed, but hard work will. Don’t be afraid to actually put effort into your projects, to put time and research into them, to get others to help you work on them, and, if you can, finish the project early so that you can spend that time improving and detailing it.
Along with hard work, students can’t be afraid of failure. In order to succeed, you most climb a ladder full of rungs of failure. But failure isn’t a bad thing; it’s simply a learning experience. Don’t be discouraged when you fail, just think: why didn’t that work? What can I change to make it work better the next time? If you never give up, and continue working hard, I guarantee you will succeed.
Don’t settle for less. I worked on a project once that was, perhaps, the most difficult project I ever accomplished. It took me many months, and lots of coordination with a ton of different people. There were multiple times I remember considering giving up, but I would always push through. But there were other times that I just wanted to finish the project, and not do it right. Just throw something together that would be work, but not put all the effort into making it what it could have been. Let me tell you, I am SO glad that I did not do this. That project turned out to be my greatest work, and I am so proud of what it became. I am glad I didn’t settle for less. All students who want to succeed should not allow themselves to shoot below their mark. Keep working hard until you make your project all that it can be, and if that doesn’t work, than work harder and ask for help from others. It isn’t shameful to ask friends, family, teachers and schoolmates to help on projects, although it you must be the one doing the brunt of the work. You can’t let them take over. But as long as you are still the head of the project, it is totally acceptable to ask for help. I finished most of my projects throughout all of school by asking for help from one source or another.
All in all, just make sure you work hard and don’t give up. Know that you are worth presenting a good project, and don’t settle for less. All students have great potential welled up inside them with such power and significance that I doubt most of them even know it. Don’t let all that greatness go to waste. Tap into it, and achieve everything that you are meant to achieve. Take initiative on your life and give it your all, and you will accomplish greatness.
