Student Council by Lucy - December 2019 Scholarship Essay

Student Council is an organization that has become a major aspect of my life. As a member for the past five years, I strive to uphold the characteristics of true student council member, and I always dedicate my time to this organization in any way possible. For my senior year of being a student council member, I am serving as a lieutenant governor for our club. This means that I am second in command of our village, which is a small group of twenty students that is responsible for organizing four major projects per year. I am also the senior class vice president. During my junior year, I was appointed to be a village leader. I was in charge of my own village, and we accomplished many events during the school year such as homecoming coronation decorating, community fundraisers, and school improvement projects. My freshmen and sophomore year I was the class treasurer. I have also served on various committees during my time in student council including Blue-Out cancer research fundraisers, back to school BINGO organizer, concession stand worker, bulletin board commissioner, homecoming wristband seller, Light the Night cancer event, numerous bake sales, phone book deliverer, Community Impact Night volunteer, food pantry worker, and many, many more.
Student council is a remarkable organization because it allows students to step up and lead others in order to make a difference. This is definitely something that I have learned during my past four years as a member, leader, and organizer. My time spent in this club has been driven by my motivation to improve life for others as well as connect with other students and faculty in my school. I have built up my character in respect to being trustworthy, honest, and humble. Being honest is a valuable attribute a person can have, and I have increased my honesty and trustworthiness through student council as I have dealt with money that we have earned and recorded how many hours that I spent working at an event. On top of that, I have become humble through all of my experiences because I realized it doesn't matter who came up with the idea to make a difference, it just matters that someone did it. I don't need credit for what I have done; it is enough to see the joy others experience from my hard work.
