My zeal to attend college by Lori - January 2018 Scholarship Essay
Zeal is having the urge or fervor to pursue something of desire. My entire youth I had always planned to go to college, so when the time finally came to apply for college, zeal is the first among many words I would use to explain why I wished to attend. I wanted to use college as a gateway to transform myself from naïve youth, to disciplined specialist in the field I am passionate for. I had zeal to learn, zeal to grow, and zeal for education. I had zeal to make my family and myself proud in my efforts to take the reins of my future, steering it in the path of a career I am passionate about.
Every moment of my life, I have had an intense passion for the organisms that live in this world. I have always adored the outdoors, seeing wonderful wildlife, the companionship of a pet, and the awe of the ocean. My father always told me growing up, “If you work with what you love, you will never work a day in your life”. Those words resonated with me when I chose to attend college, and made biology an obvious choice as my major. College is the best way that I could expand my knowledge about the organisms I feel such vehement for, and better yet, assist me to a future within this domain.
College has, and continues to provide me with knowledge, experience, and information about biology – a subject I have such exceptional eagerness for. Thus, I do not believe another, single word explains the extent of my desire to further my education within the realm of biology quite like zeal does.
