The Seed of My Inspiration by Lorena - November 2022 Scholarship Essay

For school I already get excellent grades, mostly A's and B's, with high GPA's that go up to 4.07. My inspiration for me has always been my parents. As the oldest Latin female in the home I have always been told to be something in life. I am filled with tons of responsibilities like schoolwork and work at home, now that I'm 18 I am looking for a job to be able to have some money saved up but all of these responsibilities pile up and now that I am going to college it'll be more. I want to college to be able to make my family proud. I want to be able to show them that they don't have to worry about me in life and that I will be something.
College is something no one in my family has experience with as both my family didn't graduate high school or go to college. My family and I are from El Salvador and we lived there until 2012 where we moved to the US. We waited for 10 years for our papers to go through and our family who lived in the US helped us out. I had to redo second grade due to the language barrier but I learned English in 2 months. The fact that my parents went through so many things through the 10 years of waiting and now with the language barrier and starting life all over again is what inspires me to do above and beyond in school
We have lived in the US for 11 years or so and through it all came the challenges of starting life all over again, learning a new job and getting a job. My brother and I were learning things at school different from our home country and a new language. Even when I was a child I would excel in my grades to make my family proud. They have always told me that college is the ticket to succeed and so that I can be something in my life and I genuinely want to help them. I want to give them what they gave me as a kid and even though they couldn't do much I am thankful for what they have done.
