Securing the Future: Why I Chose Business Administration and Risk Management by Lorea - April 2025 Scholarship Essay

When I began thinking seriously about my future, I knew I wanted a career that was both dynamic and impactful—something that would challenge me intellectually and allow me to contribute meaningfully to society. After exploring several different career paths, I found that business was a natural fit for me. Specifically, I plan to major in Business Administration with a concentration in Risk Management and Insurance.
I chose this major for several reasons. First, I’ve always had a strong interest in how businesses operate—from the strategic decisions they make to the ways they manage uncertainty. Risk is a part of everyday life, and I’m fascinated by how companies prepare for the unexpected while still pushing forward toward their goals. Insurance, in particular, plays a powerful role in helping individuals and organizations recover from setbacks. To me, this field represents the perfect balance of numbers, problem-solving, and people-oriented work.
Another reason I chose this major is because of its real-world relevance and job security. The insurance and risk management industry is growing and evolving, especially as we face more complex global challenges like climate change, cybersecurity threats, and shifting economic conditions. I want to be part of that transformation—helping businesses, communities, and individuals prepare for and recover from these challenges.
Additionally, majoring in Business Administration gives me the flexibility to explore multiple areas of business, such as marketing, finance, and management, while still focusing on my specialization. This broad foundation will not only help me become a well-rounded professional but will also open up a wide range of career opportunities after graduation.
