How having two jobs at the age of 17 has boosted my academic career by London - June 2024 Scholarship Essay
My name is London Jackson, and I am a 17-year-old high school senior who works at a law firm and an event planning company in Atlanta, Georgia. Having a job while excelling as an all-A’s AP student at a magnet school shows the strong impact that informal education has had on my academic success so far. While managing both work and school commitments, I have gained exceptional time management skills and an intense sense of discipline and responsibility. This has helped me develop a consistent and dedicated approach to my academic assignments.
Through my afterschool job, I have been able to gain real-world experience beyond what can be learned in a classroom. Handling the pressures of work and school has also helped strengthen my ability to manage stress, crucial for navigating the rigors of AP classes and exams. These responsibilities have fostered a robust work ethic and the motivation to help me thrive in a competitive academic environment. The unique learning opportunities available through work experiences also offer new perspectives and insights that play a strong role in formal education. In conclusion, my experiences with having two jobs have profoundly influenced my academic success. The informational education I have received from the jobs has given me skills many people do not gain until their 20s.
