My 10 Year Plan by Logan - March 2025 Scholarship Essay

Ten years from now, I want to be a licensed psychologist, helping people in a mental hospital or institution be able to get the assistance they need, without delay. This is my dream because in the past, I've struggled with my own mental health, and had to fight a broken system to get access to basic care. The onset of COVID-19 sparked a dark time for me, and getting access to basic mental health resources was a challenge. Overcoming these barriers to treatment, especially while dealing with mental health issues, is a gauntlet I want nobody else to go through. To me, the best way I can do that is by becoming a psychologist and being able to shorten wait times, and help people get treatment faster. In order to achieve this goal, I want to major in psychology and take opportunities to participate in research and complete internships, so that I can be as helpful as possible to all future clients. Because this scholarship would offer me the opportunity to afford the best education possible, I believe it can help me achieve my ten year plan. It’s the best way that I could accomplish my goals of helping others who struggle with their own mental health, and ensure everybody can access the care that they need.
