From The Ground Up by Logan - April 2022 Scholarship Essay

Throughout my life, I have been underestimated. People often talk to me for a few minutes or even take a quick glance at me; I personally already know what is going through their heads, they don't think I can do it. Whether it has to do with academic, athletic, or work-related challenges, people doubt my ability. In most situations, they will put someone before me that does not even deserve the same recognition. Nonetheless, I'm not the type to complain. This just fuels my fire to be the best person I can ever be. This is an obstacle I will always have to face my whole life. However, not all the time do people doubt me. People that are the closest to me know my true ability when I put my heart and soul into something. These are the people who keep me going because I know they understand who I am deep down. One person that knows me the best is my mom, ever since I was a kid, she set high expectations of me. Graduating middle school, I was top of my class and athletically exceptional. When I was fourteen, she would watch me ride my bike down to the gym every day as a freshman in high school to get my workouts in, sometimes even after football practice (If all my homework was done). She was also there when I worked my first job as a soccer referee at age 15. Then, soon after I walked in and got my second job at Publix when I was 16. Throughout most of my high school journey, I have played sports, worked a job, and went to school at the same time, and excelled in all three. Then, Junior year hit, and I decided I wanted to do a dual enrolment program with the college. I took the PERT and passed all three sections with flying colors and got a comment from the advisor saying "I didn't think you were going to be smart like that". After passing all three and getting accepted junior year I completed dual enrolment and, decided on doing early enrolment into St. Pete college for my senior year. With almost 20 hours of football practice a week, 20 hours of a job, and an early college program, my schedule is jam-packed. My coaches and managers are also people I can count on to represent me well because they see my work ethic. Every single coach I have known knows how much work I put in to be the best version of myself every day. I am currently looking to eventually get a scholarship on a football team or even just walk on a team so they can see my potential. Although my life can get stressful at times, I know in the end I know I will succeed.
