The Importance of Attending College by Logan - June 2013 Scholarship Essay

Attending college is one of the most beneficial and rewarding opportunities provided to us in the United States. If it was not for the financial assistance offered by our government, many people in my situation would not be able to attend or complete college. I waited until I was 24 to return to school because neither I, nor my parents, could afford tuition. After that, I was able to receive the assistance I needed to continue my education.
As a 26 year old mother of two small daughters, attending college is one of the most difficult things I have ever done. The decision to return to school was an easy one to make because providing a stable future for my children is of the greatest importance. Even though I will be graduating with my bachelor’s degree almost eight years later than most, there is no doubt in my mind that it is what I need to do.
In our society, a college education is a necessary qualification in order to procure any type of employment. I have been lucky enough to find a passion that I can turn into a lifelong career. Going to school is providing me with the tools I will need to become a professional and successful anthropologist and I am happy to live in a country that can provide me this opportunity.
