Finance class by Lleyton - January 2023 Scholarship Essay
I believe that all schools should require a finance class for students. Most students have no clue on how to manage money and have no basic money skills. Therefore, students should be taught to properly use money at a store. They should be able to cash and write checks. Also, students before graduation should know how to go to the bank, open a checking account and how to balance their accounts. Furthermore, students should be informed on student loans. Too many students take out student loans without any idea of the stipulations on the loans. While studying about student loans, it should be taught about regular loans like car and home loans. Within the unit students should be taught about interest rates and how they can affect your loans. In addition, the finance class needs to teach students what is required for loans either home or car loans.
In addition to loans, many students have no idea about making any type of budget. Students should have lessons about how to budget their money for groceries, car payments, home loans, or rent. Many high school students as soon as they get money buy expensive items, and do not realize that when they get out of high school or college, that it's not possible to just buy everything that they possibly could want.
If students were required to take a finance class in high school, we may not have the current situation with student loans. Furthermore, students would have real life skills that are not obtained in high school. School often requires students to study unrealistic or useless information that does not apply to anything in the real world. Taking a finance class would make each student have a better understanding of money.
