Nursing to Make a Difference by Lisa - February 2024 Scholarship Essay
When I go to college, I am going to get my Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. I am looking to become a registered nurse after I graduate college. I have always wanted to become a nurse since I began working in the healthcare field. I look up to and aspire to become an amazing and passionate nurse once I graduate. The world can always use more kind nurses.
I began working as a personal care assistant at Edgewood Village for a year during my junior year of high school. At the same time, I had also gotten a job as a barista at Starbucks. Being a personal care assistant was very similar to a certified nursing assistant but without taking the class and being certified. Between the two jobs as a PCA and a barista, I loved being a PCA far more. I dropped my barista job and worked close to 24 hours a week as a PCA because I loved my job that much.
After a year of working as a PCA, I wanted to become more. I made the decision to get my CNA. I took a class for a few months to get my license and began working for a Good Samaritan Society nursing home. I still work as a certified nursing assistant there but specifically in the memory care unit. I love my job regardless of how difficult it can be. I make special connections with the residents, my coworkers, and many others who I interact with.
Working in the healthcare field as a nursing assistant made me want to become a registered nurse. I love the work I do and always have a feeling of positivity after my shifts. I observe the nurses that I work with and admire the work they do. I noticed how much of a difference nurses make, and I want to make a positive impact too. Working in healthcare caused me to pursue going after my Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. I cannot wait to become a registered nurse and make a difference in the world.
