My inspiration and motivation by Linh - January 2018 Scholarship Essay

A word that can completely explain why I chose to go to college is "mother." My mother, who is both a caretaker and a best friend, has always been encouraging me to take advantage of education and use it as a tool to build my future. My father, who left my mother during her pregnancy, has never contribute to raising me. Therefore, my mother has always been taking care of my brother and me lovingly as a mom, financially as a dad, and protectively as a parent.
Whenever I think about my mother and all the hardship she has been through, I want to be able to take care of myself and give her a better life with no emotional, financial, or physical stress. I believe that education is the best way for me to pursue this goal of mine. My mother is also my inspiration. Knowing her stories, I want to become a strong, independent, talented, and wise woman just like my mother and even better. The fact that I have always been one of the top students in my class, in addition to being the first generation in my family to go to college, make my mother so proud that she usually bursts in tears whenever she looks at my high school graduation gown. Seeing how proud she is of all my achievements, it reminds and encourages me to work hard and never give up, especially when I think of how proud she will when I'm in my college graduation gown, holding a diploma, and preparing to go medical school. Another perspective of a "mother," is the thought of being a mom myself in the future. I want to be able to teach my children and help them in their education journey. I also want to be able to tell my children about how awesome my years in college are as well as my experiences, good and bad decisions I have made while in school.
I would still go to college for my future, but I would not be motivated to strive for the better and the best without my mother. I would not have enough "strength" to push through the struggles and break the obstacles without her. I believe, at least for me, a mother is her kid's motivation and inspiration. In the future, I hope that I will be my children's motivation and inspiration just like how my mom is to me.
